Oooh

I'm so excited. Look what the mailman brought me today:

It's Twinkletoes, in colorway Shadow. It's actually much darker than it appears here, and it's absolutely lovely. Forget the as-yet unnamed socks, I'm winding this baby up and casting on now! I think I'll do a simple ribbed sock for this one. The colors are too beautiful to be distracted by fancy stitches.

I spent a holiday like the rest of the country

I work third shift, so I'm used to being out of step with the rest of the world. But, by a strange stroke of luck, Monday was one of my days off, so Happy Memorial Day, y'all! I even went outside - to a barbeque! - without freaking out about the bugs (much). Josh fed us chicken and potatoes, and Theresa proved that strawberry flavored Cool Whip and angel food cake make a good Strawberry Shortcake cheat.

I took my knitting, of course. Theresa and I knitted while the "men" tried to kill one another in lightsabre duels. Gods, we are such geeks. Made good progress on the as-yet unnamed sock, though that gusset hole is bothering me.

Not enough to rip out yet, but I'm going to try to make the stitch that ought to be covering that run on my next round, and pick it up and try again. If that doesn't work, I may have to resort to frogging back. I picked the stitch up where I was supposed to; how come it doesn't look right? *pout* Lyn is attempting to name these for me, and says they look like evil Easter socks, since it's Easter colors on black. I dunno; what do you think?

Alas, We Hardly Knew Thee

Friends, we are here to bury the ill-fated tank top, before it even had a true chance at life.

I love the colors, love the yarn, but the gauge...They apparently have different standards of modesty than I do. The gauge they want allows a clear distinction between the color of my skin under the top and the color of my bra under the top. Alas, I am disenchanted. I'm going to frog what little I've finished and do a belt/scarf thing (because I really love the yarn), and the rest gets stashed.

Now, of course, I'm looking for another summer top that I like.

Oh my god. I'm...cool?

Great article at City Pages about feminism and knitting. While I'm not exactly a huge feminist, I really enjoyed what it had to say about reclaiming the ability to be female - and feminine - without shame. Thanks to Renee for bringing it to my attention.

"There's guilt and conflict inherent in being a modern girl--how does one attain gender equality without devaluing the skills our mothers and grandmothers cultivated? If being successful means devoting oneself solely to "man's work," then what does that say about women?"

Why can't I be one of those people that's always cold?

I have been inspired. Seriously, I want to make those gauntlets. Right Now.

The only problem is that I'm never, ever cold while indoors. Especially not at work. There are *looks around* 4 servers going in the closet office I work in. That doesn't make for ideal gauntlet wearing temperatures.

But. I want to make those gauntlets. They're like really long socks. There's that sock obsession again.

But wouldn't they look cool with a tank top?

Here we are...

Okay, so it may seem a little odd to have an introduction post in the middle of the blog and not in the beginning, but bear with me.

I've decided to spare my LJ friends list, as well as keep myself organized, and to create this sort of auxiliary blog. This is purely for my crafting obsessions, so if you want more of me, check out my Livejournal at http://www.livejournal.com/users/ladyarian/ . Otherwise, you're in the right place!

The reason this comes in the middle is because I've transfered all of my recent post dealing with finished objects to this blog, and backdated them accordingly. So yeah. Have fun!

FO: "The Force" Socks

You know that one lonely sock I knit? It's officially a pair now. Yay!

EWT calls them "The Force" socks, because I have a light side and a dark side. I learned my lesson about not checking dye lots before I start a project.

They were fun to make, though, and I've already started on another pair of socks. I think I'm addicted...

FO: One sock

Yeah, you need two socks to really have anything worthwhile. But I knit a sock! I'm so excited! Hardest thing I've ever tried to knit.

Isn't it cool? I mean, for a sock? Granted, it doesn't fit. And I don't wear colored socks. So as soon as I get the other one done, it go into the pile of Christmas gifts.

But, holy cow, I knit a sock!
